Michael Beyer
Michael Beyer provides media relations strategy and direction for
Ritz Communications. With more than 13 years of healthcare communications
experience and an emphasis on media relations, he has planned media
strategy, directed media relations efforts and conducted outreach
to key reporters on behalf of pharmaceutical clients such as Abbott
Laboratories, Bayer Corporation, Schering-Plough, DuPont Pharmaceuticals,
GlaxoSmithKline, Solvay, Fujisawa Healthcare, Roche Laboratories
and Pharmacia Corporation. He has developed relationships with key
news outlets in Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.
Mike's experience includes media relations for Pharmacia Corporation's oncology portfolio. He arranged media interviews for top Pharmacia executives and spokesdoctors discussing clinical trial results for Camptosar®, SU5416 and Celebrex® and directed media activities for the company during various medical meetings. He helped to direct and coordinate media relations activities for Pharmacia Oncology at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meetings, resulting in articles placed in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Associated Press and USA Today.
Mike also assisted with media relations and science communications
activities surrounding the FDA approval and launch of Zyvox™
for Pfizer, securing placements in Time, U.S. News
& World Report and The New York Times, among others;
the FDA approval of AndroGel™ for Solvay, which resulted in
a cover story in Time; and the launch of DuPont Pharmaceuticals'
Sustiva®, which generated national coverage including The
Wall Street Journal, Associated Press and CNN.
Mike has written press materials for Bayer Corporation's celebration of the 100th anniversary of aspirin. He also wrote, produced and publicized four brochures on depressive and manic-depressive illness, underwritten by a grant from Abbott Laboratories. The brochures program won a Silver Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago.
Mike earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He is based in Chicago.
