Colin Martin specializes in media and advocacy group relations
and strategy. He brings 28 years of healthcare communications experience
to the team, including 15 years as an independent consultant and
13 years with Glaxo. He has been a member of the United Kingdom's
Chartered Institute of Public Relations since 1987.
Colin's clients have included pharmaceutical companies, public
relations consultancies, medical publishing companies and the World
Health Organization. Having studied pharmacology and worked initially
as a medical writer before entering public relations, he is particularly
skilled at explaining and publicizing clinical data to support the
marketing of pharmaceutical products.
From 1986 to 1991, Colin was public relations manager at Allen & Hanburys, one of Glaxo's UK trading companies, where he directed public relations programs in the ethical and consumer sectors. He was also responsible for activities designed to enhance the company's image. In 1981, Colin moved from Australia to London to work in Glaxo's Central Marketing Division, producing training materials for worldwide use. He joined the UK company in 1982, where he helped develop Glaxo's public relations expertise in the ethical pharmaceutical sector, working closely with marketing and medical colleagues in three trading companies, as well as key opinion leaders in several therapeutic areas, including gastroenterology, dermatology, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, and infectious disease.
From 1978-1980, Colin worked for Glaxo in Australia, as a medical writer.
Colin studied at the University of Melbourne and has a degree
in pharmacology and physiology, with honors; a master's degree in
applied science; and a degree in art history. He is particularly
interested in artists whose work engages with science and medicine
and writes regularly on the subject for the British Medical
Journal, The Lancet and Nature. Colin is
based in London.
