Abbe Kalina

Abbe Kalina has 10 years of experience working with public health, pharmaceutical and consumer products and non-profit organizations. She has worked at several of the top public relations agencies, and currently lends support to a variety of clients at Ritz Communications.

Most recently, Abbe worked at GolinHarris, where she managed several campaigns for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., which included unbranded pre-approval initiatives, FDA approvals, consumer launch programs, and media relations activities composed of national media tours, local market events and deskside briefings.

In addition, Abbe worked on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s REALITY Illinois campaign, a statewide teen anti-tobacco initiative for which she cultivated relationships with key community health organizations, participated in state-led strategic planning sessions, developed and executed an educational summit for hundreds of Illinois teens and adults, and directed the development of promotional, educational and media materials. She also helped increase campaign membership by 6,000 and established local REALITY Illinois chapters throughout the state.

Prior to joining Golin/Harris, Abbe worked at Manning, Selvage and Lee, where she managed several consumer health campaigns for Proctor & Gamble that included branded initiatives, test markets, consumer and trade media outreach, influencer programs, sampling efforts and crisis planning. She also led the media relations effort and helped support annual meeting activities for the Academy of General Dentistry.

Abbe began her public relations career at Weber Shandwick, where she supported Dairy Management, Inc. and the Milk Mustache campaign. She served as a campaign spokesperson for the college tour, implemented media relations activities for the women’s, teen and men’s targeted initiatives, and served as the campaign liaison for the milk processors. Abbe also honed her writing skills by developing numerous consumer brochures and tear pads for the campaign.

Abbe has a journalism degree from the University of Missouri. She is based in Chicago.
